Dorothy J. Kasal , age 85 of Kewaunee died peacefully surrounded by her daughters on Sunday April 29, 2012. She was born October 1, 1926 in Kewaunee to the late Leo and Marie (VonDruska) Recker.
Dorothy graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1944. She attended nursing school in Milwaukee, but was unable to complete her degree because of illness of her father. She then worked as a secretary at the Leyse Aluminum Co. On June 7, 1947 she married Charles H. Kasal and he preceded her in death on May 20, 2004. Dorothy was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Parish and a member of the Women’s Catholic Society of Foresters, was a member of the Kewaunee Hospital Auxillary and was active in helping the Girl Scouts. Dorothy enjoyed playing bridge, dancing and being with family and friends. She had a beautiful singing voice end enjoyed performing solos at high school and community events. Dorothy lived for over sixty years with multiple sclerosis. Even though she faced many challenges, she always maintained a positive attitude and a great sense of humor.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law: Laura and Steve Murray, Waukesha, WI; Jean and John VanRybroek, Solon, IA; Wendy and Dan Jerabek, Kewaunee, WI; one son and daughter-in-law: Charles W. and Bonita Kasal; fourteen grandchildren: Eric (Jen) Murray, Craig (Kim) Murray, Ann (Jon) Stone, Jana, Pieter, and Christopher VanRybroek, Jason (Erin) Jerabek, Greg (Jill) Jerabek, Jeffrey Jerabek, Heidi, Charles D., Amy, Darcy and Megan Kasal; twelve great grandchildren; one brother: John Recker, Kewaunee and one sister-in-law: Mary (Harol) Kirchman, DePere, WI.
Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5 at Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee until the time of services. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Fr. William Swichtenberg officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
