August 12, 1959 ~ December 25, 2021 (age 62)

Obituary

Hon. Keith A. Mehn, 62, of Kewaunee, passed away on December 25, 2021, after a diagnosis of kidney cancer 14 months ago.  He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.  Keith was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 12, 1959, to the late Robert P. and Carrol (Stadler) Mehn.
On September 21, 1996, he married Michelle (Bertrand) Mehn in the front yard of their home in West Kewaunee.
Keith graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1977, and he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Administration Degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 1981.  He earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1985.
In 1985, Keith joined the law firm of Slatky and Wolske.  In 1992, he became partner in Slatky, Wolske, and Mehn.  In 1992, Keith was elected Kewaunee City Attorney and appointed as a Kewaunee County Circuit Court Commissioner.  During his 31 years as an attorney, Keith developed meaningful, life-long relationships with many of his clients and was supported by a remarkable staff.
In 2016, the citizens of Kewaunee County elected Keith as their Circuit Court Judge, where he proudly served until his passing.  As a new member of the Eighth Judicial District, Keith was welcomed by his peers and developed strong relationships and friendships along the way.  He worked with many amazing people at the Courthouse but had a special appreciation for his Judicial Assistant, Deb Van Ess.
Keith was a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, Kewaunee County Bar Association, Lions Club, and Kewaunee Area Scholarships, Inc., among other organizations.   As a member of the Lions Club, Keith was a humble recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for dedicated humanitarian services.
A large part of Keith’s world revolved around the activities of his children and granddaughter.  He enjoyed watching his children and granddaughter participate in sports, including coaching youth leagues.   Keith also enjoyed bird watching, fishing, and was always in for a rousing game of croquet!
Keith was an avid sports fan who liked to watch and attend Badgers, Packers, Brewers, and Bucks games.    Keith will always be remembered as a great storyteller who loved telling jokes and making people laugh.
He is survived by his wife Michelle, daughter Sara (Ty) Miller, son Alex Mehn (special friend Jamie), and granddaughter Emily, all of Kewaunee.  He is further survived by his brothers Robert (Christine) Mehn, Jr., Jeffrey (Mary) Mehn, sister Melody Mehn, sister-in-law Faye Callahan, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Keith is also survived by special friends of the family, Jayde Steward and the Kleiman and Kohnle families.
In addition to Keith’s parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, mother-in-law, several aunts, uncles, and a cousin.
